Hue/mility
For this collaborative project I was inspired through extensive conversation with my project pair, Thero Makepe.
The inspiration for the theme of this series of photos, was around representation through a musical genre. The images correlate to one another as the image of ‘the artist’ and the image that would have been on their album cover. This again was drawn from an intimate relation to my extensive conversations with, Thero and his lifestyle and personal history which is heavily influenced by music.
I created the name Hue/mility for this project, to draw on both aspects of film photography itself and the project theme which we had created. This name would have been the name of the album which this artist would have used, and the ‘hue’ is to refer to the aspect of film photography in which you aim to get a spectrum of greys and black throughout your images.
The title is also to make reference to the meaning of humility, which was used to draw an opposite theme of being humble rather than full of vanity, which is a prominent theme in the music genres in which we took inspiration for this project from, and my own interpretation of Thero’s humble character through getting to know him.
