2017 - SELF-DOUBT
This stop-motion animation was completed within a week, in fulfilment for the New Media course of my undergraduate degree.
The requirements for this project was to create a 20 second animation, and to create the sound effects for the animation with use of foley. My animation is a mixture of photography (iphone) and digital drawing (ipad, procreate) which I did by drawing the tree on a layer over the photographs, which was drawn frame by frame(creating the stop-motion effect of the animation).
The foley was recorded with my phone, to which I recorded the sound of a clock ticking, and the sound of the tree was achieved by crumpling magazine pages (that were placed inside a brown paper bag), which was scrunched underneath my desk (to achieve a muted effect).
The conceptualisation for this project developed from my self-doubt as an artist. I wanted to depict a physical manifestation of artistic self-doubt which hinders oneself to create. Personally I was fearful of failure and had a lot of self-doubt in myself, which stopped me from creating work for a very long time. Giving into the fear and thus the monster of self-doubt, stops ones growth as an artist, which only feeds into the monsters hunger to take away your creative agency.
